A Christmas Message of Hope, Deliverance & Victory for Our Nation

(May 2, 2019 this message was adapted to Covid=19 and Phase 1 of the reopening of America)

“Capacity, Capability and the Will”

from Reverend Dr. Russell M. Morrow

Because of God’s Gift to us in Jesus Christ, we have the Capacity and Capability to bring peace into the part of the world in which each of us personally live, we just need to faithfully exercise the will to do so. Good News!!!, We can do so, with the Lord being our helper.

Old Testament Text: Isaiah chapter 40: verse 5

And the glory of the Lord shall be showed, and each man shall see together, that the mouth of the Lord hath spoken. (And the glory of the Lord shall be shown, and all the people shall see it together, that the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it. Wycliff Bible Translation

New Testament Text: Matthew 5: 15-16

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.  NKJV

In the Christmas Gift of Grace given to us in Jesus Christ, we have been given the capacity to bring peace into the part of the world in which we live, because of the ample supply of God’s love and mercy through Jesus Christ that has:

  1. Justified and saved us by our Faith in Jesus Christ.
  2. Blessed us with wisdom, knowledge and understanding to liv life well
  3. Taught us the eternal truths of God to live by
  4. Allowed us to live life more abundantly.
  5. Given us the Word of God, the love of Christ and the sweet communion of the Holy Spirit.

Our capacity to bring peace into the part of the world in which each of us live is the result of God’s grace and mercy, but our capability comes from following the example of Jesus.

We learn from Luke 4:18-19 the mission statement of Jesus, he proclaimed it when he read from the book of Isaiah chapter 61, in the Temple.

“The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD. Luke chapter 4 verses 18-19 (NKJV)

When we follow Jesus as a disciple or what I like to call a Protégé, we learn how to do the works he did and even more.

Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. John chapter 14, verses 12-14 NIV

Here are three things among the many that Jesus did that we are capable of doing to bring peace into the part of the world in which each of us live, in spite of the chaos that intrudes and invades our lives.

First, we can do good and promote healing with Love.

The apostle Peter said: God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him. Acts chapter 10, verse 38.

Second, we can practice agape love:

We read in Matthew 22, Teacher, which commandment is the greatest in the Law? Jesus declared, Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments. Matthew chapter 22: verses 36-40

Third, we can do the right thing:

He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah chapter 6 verse 8.

This barely scratches the service of the different ways we can bring peace to the part of the world in which we personally live. With the capacity and capability to practice peace in our circles of family, friends and colleagues we can be salt and light.

We just have to exercise our will to do so.

More Good news this Christmas is that it is being done all around the world. We may not know about it or see it, but it is happening. Here is why and how we can know:

  1. God is not Dead
  2. His Word is eternal
  3. The truest believers are preserving our existence as the salt of the earth
  4. The promises of God are real
  5. Also, all of us who are growing and maturing in our faith have a story to tell about the goodness of the Lord and all He has done for us.

In the midst of this troubled world, because of the millions of believers who are fasting, praying, and doing what Jesus did, doing good by teaching, loving, standing up for justice and healing,  Here is even more good news for this Christmas, The gates of hell cannot prevail against the people of God who love him and keep his commandments.

Let me make myself perfectly clear on this point. We are in a spiritual warfare ware people are being bamboozled, deceived, misled, stressed out, and the list goes on and on.

And yes, it is a struggle to become the truest follower of Christ we can be in this lifetime because of the evil of sin and injustice. Also, our natural tendency to gain power and control, propensity to satisfying our flesh at the cost of our health and well being and thinking more highly of ourselves than we should. And let us not forget fear, worry and discouragement. But we can overcome these things, the Lord being our helper.

Our nation is going through another one of its dynamically  historical storms where we as a nation must search our soul again and decide if we are going to be a nation who honors our sovereign God, or are we going to repeat the mega sin of Adam and eve, an lose our God given identity. Divided by religious, political, social and moral values, along with racism and prejudice, as a nation we ALL Have SINNED AND FALLEN SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD, but the good news is that it we confess our sins, and repent from our sinful ways, we will be forgiven and  justified by our faith in Jesus Christ.

As I bring this message to a close consider this:

In spite of all the chaos that has embraced our nation throughout history, one thig has remained constant, God’s Glory is revealed in the beauty of the American landscape from sea to shining sea. Katharine Lee Bates, stated it well when she wrote “America the Beautiful ” in eighteen ninety three, based on Psalms chapter 33, verse 12, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, and the people whom He hath chosen for His own inheritance.”

America the Beautiful, verse 1.

“O beautiful for spacious skies, For amber waves of grain, For purple mountain majesties, Above thy fruited plain, America, America. God shed his grace on thee, and crown thy good with brotherhood, from sea to shining sea.”

When the disciples of Jesus let their light shine with faith by growing in wisdom stature favor with God and man who actively demonstrate agape Love, and give witness to  the goodness of God in their life who actively  that “All Power in Heaven and Earth has been given unto him, and that he is the way the truth and the life, the glory of the lord is being revealed and it is just as glorious as all of God’s creation, signifying that the breach between God and humanity has been and continues to be restored one person at a time throughout the ages .

This is what happens when the truest disciples of Jesus utilize the capacity, capability and will, to be the salt, and light, of the world.

Peace and Blessing,

Russell Morrow
